Since yesterday was a ‘recovery’ day, I took my mountain bike for the exact run that Greg and I did on Sunday. This time, I had my GPS watch. Sure enough, the run was well over 18 miles. Garmin reports 19 (18.98) miles, which is no less than what we ran. In fact, Greg and I did a lot of crossing the street (especially on East Ave., going from the city to Brighton - the sidewalk changes sides fairly often). If I had to guess, I would say that Greg and I ran closer to 19.25 miles with all the crossing we did.
When I was on the canal path between Fairport and Pittsford, I ran into a biker (on a road bike - the path is not paved at this point) from Boston. He was traveling from Seattle to downstate NY (I forget exactly where). He had been on the road for 2600 miles (since the beginning of July); this particular day, he had come from Niagara. He asked where a good place to stay would be. I recommended Palmyra, but that is a bit of a hike for someone who has already come 100 miles today. I think it would be a great trip to ride across the entire country on a bike, but I know that I am not ready for that, nor will I likely ever be in the position where I can spend that much time away (and money). But I do respect the people who go that far (he was averaging over 100 miles daily).
Then I got home and ran 2 miles, which was my ‘easy’ run for the week. It was surprisingly easy to get those 2 miles out, though my legs did certainly take a beating this weekend. I am off until Wednesday. Usually, I would do something to cross train today (I would like to get my Rollerblades out this season), but I have a board meeting for the YMCA at Camp Cory this evening, so I will likely not be home in time to do anything productive. Wednesday, I have another 5K (the St. John’s Fish and Loaves race) - this is a nice race because it is in Honeoye Falls, which has a lot of scenery. Most of the race is outside of the village, and that makes it enjoyable with all the fields and farms. Also, there is a tee shirt exchange for race shirts. I usually either use my old shirts in the shop or donate them to organizations like The Salvation Army, but the idea of a tee shirt exchange is neat. David gave me his shirts from the Chase Corporate Challenge to bring to the table.
