Tempo Run!

Posted by john on August 30, 2007 in Running

Tonight, Greg and I ran a short 7 mile tempo run. My pace was somewhere around 9:15, but I do not know for sure because I lost my GPS watch for the second time in as many weeks. I really need to take better care of that thing! I think it is probably at Greg’s [...]

Monster Shelf

Posted by john on August 29, 2007 in House

Tonight, I worked on Monster Shelf, which is a shelf in the garage that allows me to place my snow blower, lawn mower, motorcycle jack, Shop Vac (and accessories), saw horses and air compressor underneath. Normally, this equipment sits in the corner of the garage, claiming a good deal of real estate because I cannot [...]

I Was Electrocuted!

Posted by john on August 28, 2007 in Running

I had my first physical therapy appointment yesterday, and I was impressed. The physical therapist talked to me, took some measurements of muscle tightness and strength, and then watched my stride. It became very apparent to her what my problem was - I have a weak posterior tibia, which is a muscle on the inside [...]

What I Learned at 22

Posted by john on August 27, 2007 in Running

This past Sunday, Greg and I ran 22 miles, in preparation for the Rochester Marathon. In terms of weather, we were very fortunate as the weather was overcast during our entire run. The rest of the day was beautiful, which was the icing on top. Based on previous lessons, we learned that it was prudent [...]

Good Tempo Run

Posted by john on August 22, 2007 in Running

Tonight, Greg and I had a really good tempo run. We ran a 2 mile loop and most of the Rowe Quarter, for a total of just over 8 miles. The pace was brisk, at just under a 9 minute pace (Greg was faster, because we split around mile 6). This really underscores the fact [...]

Running, Blah, Running

Posted by john on August 21, 2007 in Running

Well, last Sunday saw Greg and I running our 16 mile long run. Greg did a very good job talking about the run, so I will focus instead on how the run affected me.
I experienced no leg pain on Sunday (which was fortunate), though on Monday and Tuesday, the leg pain came back a bit. [...]

Weekend Fun

Posted by john on August 20, 2007 in Comments

This weekend, Debbie (from SUNY Geneseo) came up to visit. I was very honored to let her stay at my place (she came from Reston, VA just to see some of us SUNY Geneseo folk who still live in the area). Friday night we had dinner and a beer, before watching Sean of the Dead, [...]

My First Win!

Posted by john on August 18, 2007 in Running

I ran the Stepping Stones Learning Center 5K Race for Autism. today. This is a great race - not only does it benefit a great cause (SSLC is a nationally recognized early childhood program), but the course is fairly flat and fast, and the after race treats are awesome (breakfast pizza is not normally a [...]

Clutch Work is Expensive…

Posted by john on August 17, 2007 in Jeep

…to the tune of just over $900 for a new clutch plate and throwout bearing. The shop was nice enough to let me see the old parts, which were certainly worse for wear. The bearing had literally exploded and the clutch plate had only one finger left (which was nearly flat). The guys at the [...]

Doctor’s Do Not Work on Weekends

Posted by john on August 17, 2007 in I'll take 'What is things that suck' for $200?, Jeep, Running, Sucky Corporate America

Jeep update: I should get it back today; I dropped it off on Sunday to get a new clutch.  I guess that the shop had to grow a clutch tree and harvest a ripe clutch, which would explain why a 5 hour job took 6 days.
Leg update: It still hurts, but there were no fractures. [...]
