Poison Ivy

Posted by john on November 25, 2007 in I'll take 'What is things that suck' for $200?

Ever wonder what happens when you are allergic to poison ivy and try to eat it?
I did not try to eat it, but I am severely allergic to poison ivy. At least, some forms. My grandmother has a house in Salem, CT and a cottage in Niantic, CT. As a child, I would make several [...]

Yo! Philly!

Posted by john on November 19, 2007 in Running

Today, Greg, Katie, Matt, Nathan (Matt’s brother) and I ran the Philadelphia Half Marathon. While the route was great (we ran through the downtown section, passing several landmarks), the race management needs improvement. I will give the race organizers credit because this was only the second year that they offered a half marathon (probably [...]

Awesome Run on Tuesday

Posted by john on November 16, 2007 in General

I know that I have an awesome run when Greg tells me that I am pushing him. Despite the fact that he ran a tough 16 miles a few days prior and that I had been “resting” my legs for the previous 10 days, I was able to run slow enough for him to keep [...]

Weekend Review

Posted by john on November 11, 2007 in General

This weekend was extremely satisfying to me - I got to take care of a lot of things that had not been addressed in quite some time. Most people would say that my weekend was boring, but because of my accomplishments, I am very satisfied.
Friday night I helped my neighbor bring up, and then down, [...]

Someone Slapped His Hands

Posted by john on November 8, 2007 in Comments

Looks like someone had a little chat with Criss Angel. Last night he had positive comments for every single contestant (even if their performance blew). He did have some constructive comments for a few contestants, but overall, he was positive. There was no public apology, and as predicted, the contestant who was involved with last [...]

Power Tools Are Fun!

Posted by john on November 7, 2007 in House

Yesterday, I spent the day at home taking care of my poor, sick brother. I was able to use that time fairly efficiently by borrowing his truck and renting a plate compactor from Home Depot. A plate compactor is a giant, heavy, vibrating power tool. It is use for compacting dirt and loose stone, generally [...]

RGBa Fall Classic

Posted by john on November 4, 2007 in Bicycling, Running

Yesterday was the RGBa Fall Classic, scheduled to consist of two 13 mile bike rides with a 5K in crammed in the middle. The weather was great, but none of the contestants were 100% up for the challenge. Steve was a bit ill and my leg was a little painful. The first 13 mile bike [...]

Why Rebates Suck

Posted by john on November 4, 2007 in Comments, I'll take 'What is things that suck' for $200?, Sucky Corporate America

Assuming that a rebate is paid, the buyer pays sales tax on money that they have in their pocket…
Below is a list of rebates from this year that were not paid to me. The sheer quantity makes me shudder. I really wish there were better, more trustworthy sellers out there.
BestBuy: $10.00 rebate on a LinkSys [...]

What If

Posted by john on November 3, 2007 in Comments

There comes a point in most people’s life when they ask ‘what if’. Sometimes, people ask that question over and over again. What if I told that person how much I really cared? What if I made a different decision at a specific moment in my past? What if I had asked that cute girl [...]

Criss Angel is a Twit

Posted by john on November 3, 2007 in Comments, I'll take 'What is things that suck' for $200?

As an avid fan of magic, illusions and mentalists, I was watching the new reality show Phenomenon on NBC earlier this week. For those faithful readers who are not familiar with the show, it is an elimination type reality show for mentalists/illusionists. The two judges are Criss Angel and Uri Geller; Uri is the Paula [...]
