Weekend Review

Posted by john on November 11, 2007 in General

This weekend was extremely satisfying to me - I got to take care of a lot of things that had not been addressed in quite some time. Most people would say that my weekend was boring, but because of my accomplishments, I am very satisfied.

Friday night I helped my neighbor bring up, and then down, a gas dryer. He and his wife brought it down into the basement only to find that it was all bashed apart. So I helped him get it upstairs into his van, and then I helped him bring the replacement back downstairs. I was rewarded with an invitation to play Rainbow Six (which I took him up on) and some home made lasagna. Neighbors rule!

Saturday, I cleaned out the gutters and put up a fair amount of gutter guards. I could not (safely) reach some portions of the gutter from the roof, so I will have to borrow a ladder from a neighbor next spring. I think most of the leaves have fallen already, so there is no immediate need. I also cleaned up the rest of the waste from the garage roof. I now have over 40 contractor bags filled with roof waste. I usually put one or two out each week with the trash. I may make a deal with my attorney to use his dumpster in exchange for some IT work. I also cleaned up the (house) attic crawl space, which the roofing contractor so thoughtfully left filled with roof trash. That only added two bags of waste, and those bags are already in the trash bin.

I got my motorcycles ready for winter by adding fuel stabilizer to the gas tank and running the motor untilĀ  the carbs were empty. Only one bike has a fuel shutoff - the other uses a vacuum for fuel delivery, and consequently has no fuel shutoff. I also removed the batteries and placed them in the basement; I try to trickle charge them overnight once a month to keep them healthy. I finished the day off by cleaning the house, top to bottom, including the theater room (I did not clean the bathroom, however, because I cleaned that just a week or two ago).

Today, I cleaned up my room. More than just cleaned, really. I went through my files and got rid of old, unnecessary files. I filed eleven months worth of statements on three credit cards and my checking account. I had drawers full of 401k and IRA statements, documents for my house, EZ-Pass bills, and a lot of other miscellaneous papers. All told, it took me all day (and I started at 9:00 AM)!

I am finished now, and sitting in bed, getting ready to watch Shark and call it a night. I look back at this weekend and realize that this was an extremely productive weekend. Next weekend I will be in Philly for the half marathon, so I have some preparing this week for that. Fleet Feet is also hosting a lecture on what to wear when it is cold, so I will probably end up buying something from Fleet Feet this week, too.

Sadly, next weekend will be my last run for a while, probably for the year. My leg is still swollen and I have barely run on it in recent weeks. I would rather not run for the next eight weeks than continue running and suffer through this all next year.
