Andarola Super Sprint Tri

This afternoon was the Andarola Super Sprint Triathlon, sponsored by the Andarola’s. Corey is going to be doing a sprint triathlon this year, so this was a bit of practice for the big event.
The two participants were Corey and I, with Marie running logistics and organizing the cheering section. We started at the pool, planning on 400 meters (or so). I was struggling quite a bit with my swimming and was only able to complete 200 meters.
After the swiming portion, we jumped on our bikes for a 7 mile sprint, encountering at least one fairly non-trivial hill along the way.
Lastly, we jumped into our running shoes to run 1.6 miles. There was a very large, winding hill near the end, but at the crest, Corey picked up the pace significantly and we finished with an 8:11 pace.
This was my first triathlon (and although it was practice, it was definitely a great learning experience). Even though the distances were somewhat short, learning about transitions and how your running legs take a while to appear after a bike ride were very valuable experiences for me.
My first sprint triathlon (1/2 mile open water swim, 13 mile bike ride and a 5K) will be in a few short weeks (September 21st) in Canandauiga. I look forward to seeing Katie and Corey there, along with whomever will be coming to cheer us on.
